On my recent visit to California I got to spend time with so many amazing people and *cough* cats, but that’s obviously besides the point. Lina and David were two of those people and I’m so thankful to a sweet Mrs. Jennifer P. and the Internet for connecting us!

Lina and David are expecting their first child and I am honored that they selected me to photograph such a sweet moment in their lives and I’m so happy that our schedules worked out during a weekend that I was in Los Angeles for a wedding. I was also excited to shoot at Paramount Ranch in the Santa Monica mountains where the light was an absolute dream.

These two are going to be amazing parents and I can’t wait till their sweet baby girl is able to look at these pictures and see just how happy her parents were to meet her. Enjoy some of my favorites!

I told my mother about the my 7-day juicing detox on day three and I quickly realized that it may not have been a smart move, she was not a fan. marissa! la ultima vez que hiceste esas cosas te andabas desmayando!!! que estas pensando haciendo eso cuando estas SOLA por alla!? Translation: “marissa! the last time you did that you almost fainted!!! what are you thinking doing that when you’re over there all ALONE!?” I think she was referring to the the first time I tried this detox…I threw up less then half way through the first day so I can see why she was worried. And then of course I tried to be funny and say something about how I told my sister in law to come check on me if they didn’t hear from me the next day but by the sound of my mother’s silence I figured it was best to cut the humor. ma, i read a book about it! i’m being healthy and i’m not doing it to lose weight, i promise i will stop if i don’t feel good…”

Well, today is day six of the detox and I feel GREAT! I woke up this morning and realized that I haven’t had to cook for the past SIX DAYS and I wanted to celebrate with yes, more juice. I plan to write a detailed recap on my experience with this juicing program sometime after tomorrow (the final day of the detox, whahooooo!) but for now I’ll leave you with a few things I found on Pinterest that I think are pretty great. Because really, who doesn’t like reading inspirational quotes in cool fonts and colors!?

WORD. I want to frame this and put it somewhere in my house. And I also want a T-shirt with this on it. And a coffee mug. And a mouse pad. You get the picture, I love this.

It’s always about healthy habits…And this one made me giggle… I promised that I’m not going to talk myself down as much when it comes to my body so here’s a start yes? haha!Looking forward to sharing my thoughts on not chewing anything for seven days and starting another round of a Insanity/P90x hybrid while on a juicing detox! Shhhhhh, don’t tell my mother.

If I could pack my bags and hop on a plane every month, even if only for a short trip, I would. Fortunately I have a few more trips planned to California for some amazing weddings which means that my get up and go itch will be taken care of this year. Well, kind of. I’d still like to add a few more adventures to that list so I’m definitely not done filling up my calendar….

I’ve always loved to travel and I’m so thankful that my job allows me to include it in my overall plan especially when I get to meet and work with amazing couples. Take Sara and Greg for example. They live in Los Angeles, I live in Honolulu but we met for their engagement session in San Diego. Seriously!? We’re perfect for each other. I love the Internet for making it possible for me to connect with beautiful people like them, I cannot wait for their wedding at The Pearl! So excited!

Driving and Salt Water.

I was overwhelmed with thoughts and a broad spectrum of feelings as soon as I woke up. I’m not surprised, I’ve been starting my day like that for the past week or so and it’s exhausting. But it might also be why I’ve been in love with my sleep lately, once nine thirty rolls around all I can think about is crawling into bed and letting sleep drown out the thoughts. The thoughts of everything.

I’m still in my over-sized T-shirt, hair in a messy ponytail and eyes not completely open but I’m forcing myself to sit at my computer and record a few vague thoughts. I’ve been driving a lot lately, a new favorite thing, and it seems every single song that pops up while I’m making my way to the East side of the island hits me to my core and then pushes a little deeper. Every single song. Reggae, country, hip-hop or Indie, it doesn’t matter, every single one seems to ignite thoughts about well, everything. As I make my way through parts of this beautiful island my thoughts dance around to a confused rhythm and once the array of emotions pass and another day begins I always find myself wishing that I would have written about such dances. So I’m thinking maybe that’s why I’m sitting here first thing in the morning. Or maybe I just like reminders in different places? Reminders about different stages or processes in my life? I have no idea. Maybe day three of the juicing detox is making me do this? Or maybe I’m going through what my friend Kathy and I have talked about before, an existential crisis? Or could it be that I’m simply PMS’ing? I don’t know.

But what I do know is that whatever I’m going through, sorry Internet don’t you hate when people are so vague about things!?, will pass. I have plenty of Eliana, love and chocolate in my life to get me through whatever arises. I also have a ton of amazing things to focus on and promises to fulfill so I hope this doesn’t sound like I’m giving up on anything. Heck no. If anything, I’m pumped to work harder, a lot harder.

Found this on Pinterest and it made me so happy, I guess living on an island is just what I need then. Oh the power of water in different forms….i love this so much.

And just because I want to make sure this post doesn’t sound negative in any way, here’s what my new routine will be like…. F’REALS.

I looked through a few older blog posts and realized that I haven’t posted a good amount of photos of Eliana since November! WHAT is going on here!? Get.it.together.girl.

I’m back in Oahu from my short San Diego trip, sans the husband btw, and Eliana and I both squealed when we saw each other at the airport yesterday. Seriously. She seems taller and more vocal than she was two weeks ago so this only means one thing: I HAVE TO KEEP DOCUMENTING. She’s growing up too fast and taking charge of my heart more and more each day….I can hardly keep up.

I took these photos of my older brother Jose, my gorgeous sister in law Megan and Eliana a few months ago I’m excited to share them! Finally. I’ll definitely up my game when it comes to posting photos of this little family, they’re incredibly special to me….

Today is definitely a GREAT day. I’m shooting my first wedding of 2012 and it’s the last day of the 30 day vlog challenge.

Thank you so much for stopping by and for putting up with me during these past thirty days…vlogging daily for a month has.been.intense. Although it’s been tough trying to keep everything in order, which by the way hasn’t gone very well, I’m going to miss this challenge and the awesome people I’ve met because of it. But I think a little break from getting in front of the camera will be a good thing for me so I’m looking forward to posting a few great sessions that I’ve been working on during the past few weeks!

Something I’ve been thinking about for quiet some time now…why do i blog? It’s tough and a little embarrassing to be so open on the Internet sometimes but I think the results are worth it. If I can make any kind of impact with my random blogging, if I can inspire or make someone smile, then it’s worth it. I’m not trying to imply that what I have to say is life changing or super deep but whatever it is, I don’t plan on stopping anytime soon. Vlogging though is another story, I’m going to need a break from recording videos after the challenge is over!
